Who We Are
With Learning: Empowered! since its inception in 2015, Adrienne Robertson helped form the foundation of the company. Adrienne is a powerhouse of accounting knowledge and handles our bookkeeping. She is the proud parent of two amazing children. Her son graduated from UC Berkeley in 2021, and her daughter is currently a high school freshman!

After working as an independent tutor for nine years, in 2015 Andrea founded Learning: Empowered! in order to create a quality in-home tutoring experience for local youth in Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda and Walnut Creek. She is passionate about education, and specializes in supporting students with learning differences. A graduate of UC Davis, Andrea enjoys making art and traveling with her amazing husband Joe and their awesome dog Captain Cordell di Ferdinand von Sparkly Pants.
Daniel Miller
Senior Tutor
Daniel has been tutoring students in Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda and Walnut Creek with Learning: Empowered! since 2019. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in biology with a minor in history. He tutors high school math, science, Spanish, history, and the SAT. He just recently graduated in May 2022 with a nursing degree from San Jose State University.
Malia Scullary
Academic Tutor
​Malia joined the Learning: Empowered! Team in the Fall of 2024. She is currently pursing a degree in Genetics and Plant Biology at UC Berkeley. Malia has a passion for biology, chemistry, the environment, and mathematics! As a summer camp counselor, she’s spent ample time working with students and helping them understand new concepts. When she’s not tutoring, you can find Malia spending hours in the UC Berkeley libraries working on organic chemistry, seeing a movie, or spending time with friends at home.
Maria Chernomorsky
Academic Tutor
Maria joined the Learning: Empowered! Team in the Fall of 2024. She is currently an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley studying Microbial Biology in pursuit of going to medical school. She enjoys tutoring Biology and Chemistry, along with other humanities and STEM subjects in Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda and Walnut Creek. In her free time, she enjoys painting, reading, and running.
River Hughes
Academic Tutor
River Hughes joined the Learning: Empowered! team in the Fall of 2024, following their graduation from UC Berkeley with a degree in Physics. River’s enthusiasm for both education and physics is evident in their tutoring, where they excel in helping students understand complex concepts in Physics, Math, and other STEM subjects. Outside of tutoring, River is an afterschool program instructor, where they are passionate about making science and math accessible and engaging for all students. When not teaching, River enjoys basketball, backpacking, and music production.
Samuel Turner
Academic Tutor
Samuel Turner joined the Learning: Empowered! team in the fall of 2023. Graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2023 with a BA in Physics, Samuel has a passion for physics and math, but he also loves chemistry, biology, and history! When he isn’t tutoring or researching at Berkeley Lab, Samuel can be found climbing a mountain, writing music, or reading a classic novel.
Sasha Chernomorsky

Sasha joined the Learning: Empowered! Team in the Fall of 2023, bringing years of tutoring and childcare experience to families in the Lamorinda area. She graduated from Acalanes High School in 2019, and is currently finishing her degree in English Literature and Russian Cultures at UC Berkeley. Sasha specializes in a range of subjects from English, Literature, Essay writing, and Reading Comprehension to AP history classes and lower levels of Math. In her free time, Sasha enjoys reading, camping, astrology, and preparing for a PhD program in English Literature.
